Once the backlog is created, now comes estimation so that what feature can be delivered by when can be identified
What is measure of estimate?
Estimation is most important aspects of pretty much any project we execute -- whether software or any other industry...
Ultimate goal of estimate how much it costs. In software terms this is typically measured in time -- interms of man-days. A man-day is One person's working time for a day, or the equivalent, used as a measure of how much work or labor is required or consumed to perform some task.
So is the estimate done in-terms of Man-days? It can be done with a combination of man-days however since the more complexity the task is the more harder it is to estimate, estimates can make use of fibonacci series to get more better accurate estimates.
Lets look at it by few examples:
- How much does it cost to build a 1km underground bridge v/s over several blocks (remember The Big Dig Project?)
- How much time a given player takes to run 100m vs 20000 m in olympics?
- How much does a Single UI Form v/s simple REST webservice v/s Account opening functionality take?
How do we estimate? Poker Cards?
